Wealth With Purpose

The only investment that lasts…..

One of the biggest killers of financial success is procrastination. I’ll get around to it one day is the motto most people live by, even if unconsciously. As a financial planner, the average age of people coming to see me was usually in their mid 50s. The problem by that age, was if the finances were not in good shape, then it was difficult to fix by the time they were going to cease work. The younger you are the better chance you have of getting your finances in good order. So don’t delay.

As a financial planner, I was trained to tell people to focus on the long-term. What a financial planner really means when they say you should invest for the long-term is to think about the years before retirement and the 20-30 years during retirement if you’re lucky.

I want to suggest to you that this thinking is flawed. As a believer, we know our lives on earth are short, very short. The truth is, eternity is all that matters. So why not use the money that God has blessed you with, be it a little or a lot, to invest in building his kingdom.

Yes, you should plan ahead, you should plan to have sufficient finances so that when you are no longer able to work you have enough to meet your needs, but don’t buy into the modern dream of retirement. It is a lie. Remain active, keep growing, and keep serving the King!

It is easy to fall into the trap that life is about stuff, and accumulating more of it. But as the bible says:

“Everyone comes naked from their mother’s womb, and as everyone comes, so they depart. They take nothing from their toil that they can carry in their hands.”

Ecclesiastes 5:15

As the parable of the talents suggests, we must use what God has given us to get a return on investment for God’s kingdom. So join me and invest for eternity!
